Compliance-First Cashless Payments Aim To Tackle Cannabis’ Cash Problem

A new partnership between Green Check and Lüt aims to address one of the cannabis industry’s most persistent challenges: the instability of payment systems and the reliance on cash. The companies announced a collaboration designed to deliver what they describe as the industry’s first fully compliant, cashless and stable payment solution for cannabis operators.

Green Check provides the banking compliance infrastructure used by financial institutions and operators across legal cannabis markets. Lüt is a closed-loop payments platform built specifically for regulated and emerging industries. Together, the companies plan to offer a payment system that supports in-store, delivery and e-commerce transactions without the disruptions or insufficient funds issues that cannabis businesses often encounter.

Kevin Hart, founder and CEO of Green Check, said the partnership is rooted in a shared philosophy about long-term industry needs. “Our mission has always been to bring stability and compliance to cannabis financial services, and Lüt aligns perfectly with that commitment,” Hart said. “This partnership goes beyond just our shared capabilities and the value we now bring together; it’s about philosophy. Both companies share a ‘begin with the end in mind’ approach, ensuring long-term, stable relationships that benefit the industry as a whole.”

A key feature of the model is Lüt’s closed-loop payment network. According to the companies, funds remain within the banking system and are FDIC-insured. They say this structure can reduce shutdowns, improve safety and limit the need for cash handling, which continues to be a costly operational hurdle for many operators.

The collaboration is also positioned as a way for cannabis businesses to diversify revenue streams. With new tools for delivery and e-commerce transactions, the companies argue that operators can expand sales channels while maintaining compliance.

Michael Andrud, founder and CEO of Lüt, said both teams aligned early around a shared goal. “From our first conversations, it was clear that Lüt and Green Check share the same vision for the future of this industry,” Andrud said. “We both want to make things easier, safer and more reliable for operators. This partnership lets us bring that shared vision to life with a simple, dependable payment solution that truly meets the needs of cannabis businesses.”
